AngelouEconomics evaluated the economic repercussions of Texas’s proposed Senate Bill 6 (SB 6), a controversial piece of legislation perceived as discriminatory. The study forecasted $5.6 billion in economic losses, including $1.04 billion from confirmed business departures and $4.1 billion from threatened departures. These losses encompassed conference cancellations, capital investment redirection, and reduced major event bookings.
Additionally, SB 6 jeopardized Texas’s ability to attract skilled talent, particularly among younger demographics favoring inclusivity. Major industries, including tourism and sports, were projected to face significant declines, further dampening the state’s reputation as a business hub. The findings emphasized the need for inclusive policies to maintain Texas’s economic prosperity.
