In 2001, AE completed an economic development master plan for the City of Lampasas, located approximately 70 miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. A small community of just over 7000 residents, Lampasas was lacking direction in its economic development efforts and struggling with widespread community apathy regarding its future growth.

Like many other small towns across Central Texas, Lampasas’ leaders have been increasingly faced with important decisions regarding the city’s future in light of rapidly changing economic conditions. These issues included how to manage the city’s growth, where new residents will live, and, perhaps most significantly, in what businesses and industries they will be employed. By identifying target industries to expand locally or recruit externally, this plan sought to provide the city with a roadmap for pursuing economic diversification that would benefit existing residents as well as future generations of Lampasas citizens.

As a result of the strategic planning process, AngelouEconomics identified four primary industries for the city to focus their recruitment efforts on, including contract manufacturing, plastic injection molding, logistics and distribution, and warehouse and storage.

Since completing the plan, Lampasas has secured funding and is moving forward with the construction of a new industrial park to recruit its target industries as well as implementing other aspects of the master plan.
